DESCRIPTION
The MDrive NEMA 17 high-torque Integrated Motor and Driver is ideal for designers who want the simplicity of a motor with onboard electronics, but without the expense of an indexer on each axis. The low cost MDrive17 puts the system designer in the driver’s seat to decide the best method of control. The MDrive17’s integrated electronics eliminates the need to run the motor cabling through the machine, reducing the potential for problems due to electrical noise.

The MDrive17 uses a NEMA 17 frame size 1.8° motor combined with a microstepping drive, and accepts up to 14 resolution settings from 1/2 to 256 microsteps per full step. Setup parameters include Microstep Resolution and Run/Hold currents. These settings may be changed on-the-fly or downloaded and stored in nonvolatile memory with the use of a simple GUI which is provided. This eliminates the need for external switches or resistors. Parameters are changed via an SPI port located on connector P2. Operating voltage for the MDrive17 ranges from +12 to +48 VDC.

The versatile, compact MDrive17 is available in multiple configurations to fit various system needs. These options include: a single shaft stand-alone device, dual shaft rotary motor with optical encoder or control knob, or an ACME screw linear actuator. The rotary MDrive 17 is also available in three different stack lengths: 13, 15 & 19. Interface connections are accomplished using either a 7 position terminal block or optional 12” (30.5 cm) flying leads.

The MDrive17 is a compact, powerful and inexpensive solution that will reduce system cost, design and assembly time for a large range of stepping motor applications.

DESCRIPTION
The MDrive17 Variable Speed Control offers the system designer low cost, intelligent velocity control integrated with a NEMA 17 enhanced torque stepping motor and a +12 to +48 volt microstepping drive.

The MDrive17 Variable Speed Control features a digital oscillator for accurate velocity control with an output frequency of up to 100 kilohertz. Output frequency will vary with the voltage level on the speed control input. The speed control input can be adjusted by using a 10k potentiometer or by directly applying 0 to 5 volts to the input.

There are two basic modes of operation: bi-directional and unidirectional. In bi-directional mode, both speed and direction are controlled by the analog speed control input. In unidirectional mode, only velocity is controlled by the speed control input; direction is controlled by a separate digital input.

The MDrive17 Variable Speed Control has 11 setup parameters which are configured using the included Configuration Utility. These enable the user to configure all of the operational parameters of the MDrive17 which are stored in nonvolatile memory.

The versatile, compact MDrive17 Variable Speed Control is available in multiple configurations to fit various system needs. These options include: a single shaft stand-alone device, a dual shaft rotary motor with optical encoder or a control knob, or an ACME screw linear actuator. DESCRIPTION
The MDrive23 Motion Control offers the system designer a low cost, intelligent motion controller integrated with a NEMA 23 high torque stepping motor and a +12 to +48 volt microstepping drive.

The MDrive23 Motion Control adds a versatile array of functions by combining a complete programmable motion controller with our already compact and cost effective standard MDrive23, adding little cost and no increase in size. Standard offerings include four 5 to 24 volt general purpose I/O lines, one 10 bit analog input, 0 to 5 MHz step clock rate, microstep resolution up to 51,200 steps per revolution, and a full featured easy-to-program instruction set.

The MDrive23 Motion Control communicates over RS485 which allows for point-to-point or multiple unit configurations utilizing one communication port. Addressing and hardware support up to 62 uniquely addressed units communicating over a single line. Baud rate is selectable from 4,800 to 115K.

The MDrive23 Motion Controller is available with optional closed loop control. The closed loop configuration adds a 512 line (2048 edge) encoder with index mark internal to the MDrive without increasing the length of the unit. Functionality increases to add stall detection, position maintenance, and find index mark.

Available motor configurations include: single shaft, double shaft with knob, and long life ACME screw linear actuator. Rotary versions are available in three motor lengths: 18, 22 & 31. Interface connections are accomplished using either a 7 position terminal block or optional 12” (30.5 cm) flying leads.

The MDrive23 Motion Control is a compact, powerful and inexpensive solution that will reduce system cost, design and assembly time for a large range of stepping motor applications.
